The 125cc courses can be confusing due to the age restriction rules and engine capacity of bikes, so we have tried to explain below how it all works.
There are two types of 125cc licence. The A1 and the A2.
Taking and passing your test on the A1 Course will restrict you to any bike up to 125cc and a power output of 11kw (14.6bhp). The practical tests must be taken on a bike of between 75cc and 125cc.
A standard motorcycle licence is obtained if the practical test is taken on a bike of over 120cc, but not more than 125cc and capable of at least 100km per hour (62mph). Once you have passed this test it will enable you ride a bike up to 33 bhp (25kw). After you have ridden a bike of this power restriction for two years you will then be able to ride any size motorbike even if you are still under 21, without having to take another test.
If you have the A2 licence and have not completed your 2 years of riding experience and reach the age of 21 within this 2 year period you will be eligible to take a further test called the Accelerated Access Test, which will then entitle you to ride any capacity of bike.
As you may be aware the Motorcycle Test has now been divided into two parts. At Easy Rider we equip you with the skills to excel in both sections referred to as Module 1 and Module 2.
Module 1 is an off road test designed to assess your machine control in specific scenarios.
Here at Easy Rider's premises (the largest motorcycle training centre in Derby) we have the facilities to perfect all of the required manoeuvres in an environment closely matching your test scenario. With the help of our friendly instructors you will rapidly gain confidence in yourself and your machine to enable you to master these necessary skills.
Module 2 training consists of on-road experience riding together, either following by example or being observed by the instructor you will begin to ride not as a beginner but as a confident safe motorcyclist.
The different road scenarios you will encounter will be explained and clarified building into a pattern for safe riding. Better riding is not about riding slower, but with a confident, calm smoothness, giving you time to react to obstacles, a correct line and road placing around junctions and other traffic, and a conspicuous road presence making other drivers respect you.
At Easy Rider Motorcycle training great care is taken to team you with another rider with similar ability level (so no worries about finding yourself with a school boy club racer needing to get his road licence,) and a three way discussion will often develop with students and instructor. Usually, a mixture of praise, encouragement and helpful advice enabling you to not only absorb information but gain confidence.
